Hi Simon,

I just want to thank you for your time doing the survey on 1 Giant Leap on Saturday. In particular your willingness to allow me to be there and learn from you. It was great to learn from your wealth of industry knowledge, I hope I didn’t slow you up too much.

Thanks again

Thanks so much Simon for that. It is a wonderful survey and I very much appreciate the extra comments about how special the boat is. The out of water work is almost complete and I am very grateful for your having a word with Adam who is doing a great job. The boat certainly deserves the extra attention it is getting.
As a matter of interest regarding when the rigging was last done, we found records showing it was last redone in 2010 which might be worth making a record of in your notes for the next survey which we most certainly will come back to you for.  Once again much gratitude for going the extra mile for us on this one. Warmest regards and many thanks.

Hi Simon,

Thank you for your help today with the boat we were looking to buy. I respect your honesty in checking this boat that may have cost us a lot to fix if did not have you to check it for us.

Kind Regards,

Hi Simon,

Today I got rewarded for doing the right thing and fixing the play in the props rather than just let it be the next owners problem.

When removing the nut that holds the prop to its shaft on the Stb saildrive, the end of the shaft to which the nut attaches snapped off with very little torque .  A small rust stain on the cross section of the shaft where it snapped indicated that this failure had been lurking about unknown for some time.  I consider myself lucky that it failed on the hard when trying to unscrew the nut. Judging by how little torque it took to break, I could have easily lost the expensive folding prop in the river in the very near future.

If Murphy was on board, this would have happened during a test sail for a sale.

The good news is that the port sail drive nut took quite a bit of force to remove with a long breaker bar, so this sail drive shaft is OK. Thank you very much for testing and pointing out to me the play in the prop relative the shaft.  The problem is being fixed on both sail drives.

Have a great weekend sailing.

Hi Simon,

You did an awesome job for me a few years back, when I was importing my Cape Dory 30, Portal, into Brisbane. I was really happy with your work.

Best,

Hi Simon,

Just a note to thank you for your help. Margaret agreed to our offer a week or so ago so we are now the proud owners of Rondo - and I keep marvelling at Doug's workmanship.

Thank you for your help

Hope to meet up one day

Simon - it was great meeting you today, thank you so much for conducting the survey at such short notice. I paid your fee tonight and have also attached the current qld registration certificate (where I notice I must update our address and also change boat from Motor to sail!). Certificate has Serial number and engine number.
Thanks again, see you on the water!

Hi Simon,

Many thanks for your help. We will try it. We are now in Jervis Bay (200 km south of Sydney), in a friend's house. The trip to here was wonderfull, the weather was perfect, and we enjoied it. We will leave definitively Australia the 3rd of June. Back to home, we will re-install us and beginn a new live. We wish you all the best and maybe, we never knew, we see us again in this world.

Cheers.
